Learn how to make a knotted rug weaving with yarn and upcycled textiles. This workshop is inspired by the long history of rug making in many cultures, focusing on the methodical experience of knotting as a tactile way to explore color theory. Play with different fibers, colors and textures to create a small rug and learn the basics of weaving. All levels of experience are welcome.
Materials needed:
Loom (frame loom, floor loom, rigid heddle or tapestry loom all work for this technique! Don’t have a loom? Check out this easy way to make one out of cardboard.)
Warp yarn (I prefer to use crochet cotton or cotton rug yarn)
Weft yarn (600+ grams of yarn, 1⁄2 yd of fabric in strips for a 12” x 12” weaving in multiple
colors/textures/fibers)
Sharp scissors
