This is an interactive, online workshop that will be on Zoom.
All participants will be emailed a link to access the workshop 2 days prior to the event.
Explore the surrealist nature of collage by using fabric appliqué. Collage is a great way to experiment and take risks in making art. It simulates the freedom of working in a sketchbook, but once completed, it has the finesse of a completed piece. This technique can easily lend itself to abstract and pictorial imagery alike.
I will cover two different sewing techniques for appliqué, including:
Raw edge appliqué with invisible hand-stitching
Traditional folded edge appliqué with hemming stitch
If you know any embroidery or other decorative stitching, feel free to include it in your collage!
Objectives for the workshop include:
Exploring different sewing techniques in applique
Playing with different ways to create movement and rhythm in a composition
Understanding general color theory when working with patterned fabric
Awareness of the importance to reuse textiles
Class fee is $75 for this three-hour, live online workshop (does not include materials).*
*I will be donating 10% of all workshop proceeds to Able ARTS Work.
